The Central Area Neighborhood Development Organization (CANDO) has a unique opportunity for local artists to submit photography for utility box wraps. CANDO is seeking designs for four designated utility boxes in the Central neighborhood. The project is part of the City of Minneapolis Art in Public Places program where neighborhoods have painted or wrapped utility boxes in an effort to reduce graffiti and beautify the neighborhood. This project will be the first installation of CANDO’s public art program.
The Call for Artist is open to Minneapolis residents who live in the Central neighborhood. It is open to professional and amateur artists, or anyone who is creative. The photographs must reflect the landscape, architecture, culture or people of the Central neighborhood with special attention paid to the African American and Latino communities.
The photographs must be able to be translated into a high resolution digital image and wrapped onto a 5-sided utility box. Selected artists will be paid an honorarium of $250. Selected artists will be credited for their work, but artists must sign a VARA waiver releasing the rights for CANDO to use the designs as required by the City of Minneapolis.
Interested individuals should submit their work by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Photographs must be submitted in a jpeg format. Please submit only two (2) photographs for consideration. Include your name, home address, and telephone number. The deadline for submission is July 13, 2015.
